چکیده
Developments in X-ray synchrotron radiation sources and electronic area detectors have allowed the development of new X-ray diffraction techniques to investigate polymeric materials at high temporal and spatial resolution. These developments are illustrated by studies of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET). The fabrication of films and containers of PET typically involves mechanical deformation at elevated temperatures close to its Tg. Such processing can have major effects on the degree of polymer orientation and crystallinity and hence on the physical properties of the material. This paper describes the time-resolved X-ray diffraction technique developed to investigate the strain-induced crystallisation in PET under industrial processing conditions with 40 milliseconds time resolution. The investigation of the structural variation in orientation and crystallinity across the wall of a container fabricated from PET using an X-ray beam as small as 2 μm diameter is also described. The potential for more general application of these techniques in the study of other polymer materials is indicated.

متن کاملSpatio-temporal analysis of the covid-19 impacts on the using Chicago urban shared bicycles by tensor-based approach
Cycling is a phenomenon in urban transportation that has the ability to allocate a specific location at any moment in time. Accordingly, spatial analysis of bicycle trips can be accompanied by temporal analysis. The use of a GIS environment is commonly recommended to display the extent of the phenomenon's spatial changes. However, in order to apply and display changes over time, it will requir...
متن کاملRelationship between topography, land use and soil moisture in loess hillslopes
The relationship between topography, land use, and topsoil moisture storage is investigated for a small catchment with undulating deep loess hilslopes in the south of the Netherlands. For a period of 10 months, soil moisture profiles have been measured weekly at 15 locations throughout the catchment. A Generalized Additive Model was employed to find relationships between the various factors inf...
متن کاملDYNAMICS OF MUDBANKS ALONG A COAST EXPERIENCING RECURRING EPISODES OF EROSION AND ACCRETION
The morphological states of Guyana’s coastal system, at various spatial and temporal scales, are found to be influenced by the formation and migration of mudbanks. Stationary and propagating mudbanks along the coast are investigated with the use of multiple data sources, including aerial photographs, satellite imagery, GPS measurements, and a time series of coastal profile data (1941-1987...
متن کاملOn compression and damage evolution in two thermoplastics
The well-known Taylor cylinder impact test, which follows the impact of a flat-ended cylindrical rod onto a rigid stationary anvil, is conducted over a range of impact speeds for two polymers, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and polyetheretherketone (PEEK). In previous work, experiments and a model were developed to capture the deformation behaviour of the cylinder after impact. These works show...
